Wood Crafts

When you say wood crafts that can cover alot of area. I recently got into scroll sawing and found I really enjoy it. I just finished cutting out a humming bird and its backing. I say backing as its a 3 dimensional picture. I cut out two patterns the same with the exception of the top piece. Thats where the hard part comes in as you have to disconnect the blade and put it up through the hole made in the parts that are to be cut out. This can be tedious work depending on the project and of course I like a challenge. This will be my second scroll saw project and no it doesn't get any easier. Course after doing it for a while it may get easier but hard or not its still fun to do. Like many of my other crafts I combine and intergrade them. With the scrollsaw project I just finished cutting out I can use my wood burner on it to bring out the details. Wood burning is pretty easy, and doesn't take to much time to do. A store that I put a few of my crafts in to sell wanted a sign made so I offered to make one. I went to our local pine furniture store and raided their scrap box out back that they have for people to use as kindlin. I usually find some pretty good pieces of wood to bring home for my projects. If you don't have a furniture store that makes their own stuff , Lowes and Home Depot are good stores to find the right wood you need. If you have a carpenter in the house like I do, their scraps are always fun to paw through, my hubby makes cabinets so theres always scraps around. Wood burners can be picked up for a reasonable price at walmart or your local craft store. Scroll saws you can find at Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, or if you like yard saling and flea markets you can find one there too like I did for next to nothing. Believe it or not, flea markets and yard sales are a crafters greatest resource as you never know what you might find that suits your particular craft/project.
