I finally finished one of my scroll saw projects, and ready to do more. Being a self taught crafter, scrollsawing is my newest craft. I started out with easy things first to get the feel of the saw and a understanding of how it worked, trying different blades till I decided I like the spirial blade the best. My first projects were puzzles I did up for my grandson. Simple and easy to make and easy for kids to put together. My next project, which is just about done, was a bit more complicated then cutting out puzzle pieces. I had to take the blade out of its holder many times to put up through the holes I made where it needed to be cut out. This was the most time consuming part of the whole project, but the end result was pretty rewarding. The humming bird in the upper right corner is made in two pieces, the top being the one intricately cut out.The second piece is painted then the two glued together. Once dried, I sanded and woodburned in the details of the wings ect. then put sanding sealer over the whole thing. I'm using a soda can top for a hanger on the back but regular picture hangers can be found at your local craft store if you perfer. The wood for my projects comes from the local pine furniture store who keeps scrap wood boxes out back for people to use as kindalin, some of it is pretty good wood but not big enough to use. So all in all my scrollsaw projects can be made for next to nothing. If you have local furniture stores that make their own wood products check to see if they put the scrap pieces out for people to take. Any lumber store may also have discounted stuff. If you like working with wood check out my store for more wood project ideas and books.
