Stain glass

When you think of stainglass you think of the big stainglass windows in Churches, museums and such. You can find stainglass stores that sell glass pictures for big money. You can make your own stainglass projects after investing big dollars for your materials and supplies. Being creative and crafty I jump from one craft to another. Stain glass is no different. I actually started out by picking up a tea candle holder that came with paints to do it up with. Thus my self taught introduction to stainglass paints and liquid leading. Once I started I was hooked! Everything was covered in staingalss including our front, all glass door. This I did directly on the door.
Because the glass was doubled it was hard to tape a pattern on one side and trace on the other. I ended up using carbon paper against the glass making sure it was securly in place. Once done it was just a matter of tracing the lines with the liquid leading. Mind you this was one of the first BIG projects I attempted. With all the drying time, coloring ect. it took me bout 3days to finish this door. Not bad for a first timer! With that project being done, I proceeded to more and more projects in stainglass. Yes, I'm addicted! I found that using the liquid leading and glass paints
allowed me alot more flexibility then what the actual glass did. Its a never ending world of endless patterns of which I take and intergrade with other crafts. This one, I'm going to send a picture of to my cousin and see if he can do a chainsaw carving of it. Yes craftyness is a family trait.! For stainglass project ideas that are inexpensive, just look around your house or craft room .I
found that stainglass(onced completely dried) could be taken off a glass surface. With more experimenting with different surfaces I found the acrylic sheets to be the best for what I do. I've enlarged projects to accomidate special request orders. You can see more of my stainglass on my craft site , http://www.geocities.com/onelovnhart Stainglass paints and leading are fairly reasonable at your local craft store and if you look around you can find old glass windows or just paines to practise on. I actually did glass vases one year for christmas gifts and got good reviews on them. I've gone to local goodwill stores and found inexpensive glass for my different projects. In any craft you do resorucefullness is the main key. A big old picture window we had with end windows that opened was replaced, and the old one set aside. Well I decided to play around with the window and my stainglass patterns. The end result was quite impressive this is the front
of the window and the back, being outside was left with a rough worn look. It really is amazing when you let your imagination run and be creative.
