Beading like many crafts can cover a huge area of design. There are so many different things you can do with beads. Like my angel to the right, it is made with facuted beads and safety pins. I made several of these angels and have some tucked away with the christmas decorations. They really don't take any time at all to make and their easy for kids to make with supervision. When it comes to beading a crafters imagination can really kick in. Now a days there are so many beautiful designs for jewerly, even foot decorations, I've recently seen beading done on gourds which I think is really unique, again the intergrading of two crafts into one. I love working with beads and have alot of fun making jewerly with different beads. My youngest daughter got her prom/graduation dress and I made a matching set of necklace and earrings to go with it and also made a set with her birthstone color. Below to the left is a 3 piece set I did up to sell.
While us adults have fun with beads, kids can too. I remember my girls playing with pony beads putting them in their hair and making things with them. Ebeads are also good beads for older kids their a bit bigger then seed beads but still easy to work with. If your kids show interest when your working with beads give them some to play with and see what they come up with for ideas. Another idea for beading is one I've done myself using cable lashing wire which bends fairly easily but is strong enough to take the ware and tare of of being used for bracelets. Now not everyone has lashing wire available but picture wire works well, or hit up your local craft shop and see what they have available. With wire you can design your own stuff using beads or maybe even shells. The ideas are endless. Just let the imagination go!
