How many times have you gone to the beach and collected shells, rocks or smoothed glass better known as seaglass. I used to all the time as a kid and still do today as do my girls and sister. I got into one of those "creative modes" and came up with this wind chime made with a small gourd, jewelry wire, sea shells, lead sinker balls and a piece of scrap copper tubing. Using a small drill bit I drilled holes along the bottom edge of the gourd which I cut out. If you work with jewerly then take your small crimp beads to hold the wire in place once through the holes. I then took my shells and drilled holes in each end (you'll break a few so make sure you have plenty) taking my wire, I strung on my shells using a small lead fishing weight to hold each in place on the wire. Once those are on I added in the scrape copper for the shells to ding against with out breaking, course I had the gourd painted and coated with indoor/outdoor gloss. The simple things we like to collect sometimes don't seem like much but if your a crafter it can have a million uses. My sister, JB made a picture frame using scrap wood, broken dishes smoothed by water, seaglass, and a few small rocks. Using grout which does come in colors, she made a paste, set the shells, seaglass ect in and let it dry. It creates the most unique frame for pictures and its original. Sea glass is also great for mixing with beads or by itself for jewlery. Just be sure to have a diamond tip drill bit for your glass. So the next time you go to a beach take a nice long walk, you might find a few small treasures for your crafts.
