Handmade Treasures & Heirlooms

You may remember in years gone by, your parents having toys, quilts, ect made by their great great Great...grandparents and passed down to each generation that came along. I'm one of those people that has things I've saved from childhood and passed on down to my girls. My oldest daughter Sam has a wooden toy box her great grandfather built for her when she was little, when she out grew it I had put it up for safe keeping. The weekend before Christmas I got her toy box out of storage and proceeded to empty it out. Yes the toys were still in there some of which were mine my mom made and some mom made for Sam. After getting all the dust off and cleaned up I brought out the letters I had cut out spelling caleb's name, and we added his name to the toy box. Once Caleb outgrows his toy box it will again be put up for safe keeping and passed on down to his kids, who in turn will have their names added to the box. It was nice for Sam to have something to pass down and reminds me of how people made things way back when instead of going out and buying something. Hand made projects just seem to hold so much more meaning, because it comes from the heart and soul of the one making it, and as years go by it becomes more precious to the one who owns it. Its like a part of family history passed down through the years. So this year I challenge all you crafters out there to think about what you might want to pass on down to your children, or grandchildren and give them a piece of true family history crafters style.
