My oldest, Sam was down last weekend and brought her new bead collection with her, along with a small divided box she picked up for her beads. Now, knowing my girls as I do, I asked Sam if she wanted a bigger box and of course she did. So I proceeded to build one..Now mind you, I'm sorta lucky in the sense that I'm not one to use a tape measure when I'm building..the idea is in my head and I build by sight. Its not always the best idea and I don't recommend not using some sort of yard stick, ruler, or measuring tape as lines do go crooked. As most of you know that keep up with my blogs, I get my wood from the scrape wood boxes at furniture stores that do their own building. I pick out all sizes of scrape pieces cause even ones you think might be to small do come in handy when building something like a bead box/organizer. In making this box, I laid out my pieces of wood in the shape that I wanted, then proceeded to cut them down to size. Once I have the "frame" made I then fit the bottom and cut that to size as well, then start nailing the pieces together with a brad nailer, (ours is one that works with an air compressor )we now have a box. The next step was a bit more work but still fairly easy to do. I used two pieces of wood to make the main rails for the dividers then made five shorter pieces for the cross sections. The next step with help from hubby is to cut the main rails and divider pieces so they interlock. This I did by lowering the saw blade on my table saw to a height just half way up the divider pieces so I could just run them over the blade. The two rail pieces are done together at one time as is the five divider pieces, thus making sure they are all the same, once cut, you put them together and put them into the box.
