As much as I blog about all the crafts
I've never talked much about all the different tools I tend to use. A couple weeks ago a good friend of ours stopped by to visit and I was showing him this new tool that was advertised. He in turn said there was a better tool my hubby would like if I was gonna spend any kind of money and proceeded to take me to the ShopSmith.com web site. What they had was a 3 in one multi machine consisting of a saw table, layth, and drill press. Now mind you it was a nice tool and would come in ever so handy but the price was $4,000.00 and way out of my price range. Now for some of you who are always looking for deals, we have up here in Maine a book called Uncle Henry's that comes out once a week. This is where everyone sells what ever they have that they want to get rid of. I happen to be looking through my Uncle Henry's and spotted the same type of machine up for sale. After making ph. calls my friend Andy and I went to Boothbay to check out this shopsmith and I ended up buying it for well below the going price of a new one,and loaded it up into his trailer which was easier going onto it then it was coming off when we got home. As hoped for my hubby was quite surprised when he got home from work to see a nice old well kept machine sitting in the entry way waiting for his inspection. Off course he just had to play with it right off and try out all the different things it could do. This leads to my learning yet another tool and a new world of creating new projects with the layth which hubby showed me how to use. When someone asks how I got into all the crafts I do I just tell them that one crafts always leads to another and here again is the proof. For basic tools of a crafter (depending on the craft), jigsaws, tablesaws, scrollsaws, sanders, pliers, wood burners and hammers are a must. If your limited in funds then looking in the news papers and Uncle Henry's for things others are getting rid of is the best way to get your tool collection started. Also watch your sales at your local discount stores. Up here we have a Big Lots which has discounted stuff and it was here that I also found a drill press for a reasonable price. Marden's is another store that tends to have good deals but you have to always keep an eye on their sale fliers every week. As with any good deal, when it comes to buying the tools you need, stop and look for all your resoursces and dont leave out the great deals you find at yardsales and flea markets as well.
