Composit Azak Wood

Hello all. The last few weeks seem to have flown by for me and have been filled with more surprises then I thought possible. I haven't done much crafting in the last couple weeks, but do have a new item to work with and make mention of.  Hubby is always bringing home something left over or something thats gonna get thrown out from work, and his latest haul was what he called composit wood. This stuff isn't wood at all but a plastic type material that hannaford stores use for trim on the outside of their stores. In looking up this material it is made from a high density polyurethane material. Cutting this stuff on a scroll saw was easier on the thinner stuff then the thicker as my cuts would melt as the saw blade cut. I have yet to finish cutting out the mouth on my pumpkin I made with the thicker composit and then I will sand down both sides as it has a shiny coating on it and paint the pumpkin up. In cutting the thinner composit, it was easier and didn't melt as much but still had to take my small hammer to knock off what was cut. In my trade as a handcraft person I always learn new things as I go and this composit was a learning process as far as what will stick to it and what won't. I found in order for my acrylic paint to stick to this stuff I needed to sand off the shiny coating it had on it. Once my project is finished I will seal it with poly and it will be good to go and won't rot away like wood can. I was told this stuff will expand when in the sun which for me is ok cause I'm using it to make my garden pokes so that they will last way longer out in the weather. As you can see from the photo below the composit is a bit thicker then the wood I normally use  but this is a plus in that I can melt a hole for my metal rod in the bottom and don't have to worry about splitting anything.

Once my pumpkin is done I will put that on here to give everyone an idea of what you can do with this composit stuff. For lack of an exact word for this composit hubby says the guys that work with this call it Azak. The website I found that has this stuff is www.wholesalemillwork.com  once there on the left hand side is a long list of different things they do. I clicked on the yard and garden and found a few outdoor items made with this composit. If anyone has any other web sites dealing with this new stuff please let us know, we'd love to hear from you.
